[The Standard, Mar 2, 2026] The Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) has launched the Hetao-Hong Kong Youth Innovation Hub, aiming to provide a more comprehensive support platform for young entrepreneurs under its “One Ecosystem, Two Cities” strategy.

The launch ceremony was held on Monday (March 2) at the Hong Kong Science Park Shenzhen Branch in Futian and attended by government officials and representatives from technology enterprises in both cities.

Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry Sun Dong
Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry Sun Dong said authorities in Hong Kong and Shenzhen are actively discussing implementation plans to facilitate the cross-border flow of people, logistics, capital and data.
Sunny Chai Ngai-chiu, chairman of HKSTP, described the launch as a "critical moment" and expressed hope that the new hub would provide broader space for talent development.
Pheona Kan, HKSTP director of New Ventures, said the hub will focus on delivering "go-global" services and talent training. She added that company selection criteria will align with the established system of the Hong Kong Science Park.
The hub will concentrate on strategic sectors aligned with development priorities in Hong Kong and nationally, including artificial intelligence, microelectronics, and hard and core technology.
Kan noted that the first building of the HKSTP Shenzhen branch, which opened in 2023, has reached a 70 percent occupancy rate, with 80 percent of tenant companies originating from Hong Kong.
Around 10 companies have already established operations at the new hub, seven of which expanded from the Hong Kong Science Park. Kan said this underscores the Hetao park’s unique advantage in cross-border connectivity.
She added that a dedicated cross-border bus service offers point-to-point transportation between the Hong Kong and Shenzhen parks.

Yu Chen, chief executive of Haptron Scientific (Shenzhen), said the park has effectively promoted talent mobility. His company initially joined the Shenzhen branch before setting up at the Hong Kong Science Park, which helped it build connections and attract new talent.
He also said the park organizes visits by overseas delegations, enabling face-to-face negotiations with potential partners and helping expand international business opportunities.
